Another update

Haven't been scanning much this week with the Fair going on, but here's three new photos to enjoy. The first is Chloe Gibbs in 1907. Madge wrote that she was 16, and this was her first long dress.

This is Madge and her Aunt Mae (Mabel Louise Gilpin) in 1913. Check out the diamonds and furs...

This is Chloe Gibbs and Frank Eilthorpe, about 1919. On the back, Madge wrote that Frank had asked Chloe to marry him, but only if she'd put the girls in boarding school...wouldn't you like to know the whole story behind that one!

So that's it for now...enjoy.

More Photos to view

Ok-this will probably get confusing-so you may want to pull up the tree to be sure where these folks fit into the "big" picture.

The Samuel Frakes Gilpin Family, 1892. Sam, Lillie Mae (Wright), Joseph, Cleopatra (Chloe) and Mabel Louise.

Madge Gibbs, her 1st teaching photo from Tampa (Okla.) High in 1936. Wasn't she a beauty.

Susan Hinkle, Virinda Elstwick and Jim Hinkle, June 1954. Don't know where this one was taken, perhaps in West Virginia?

Jennifer and Samantha Wilson, Creve Coeur, 1978. Can't tell they're destined to wear crowns and sashes in their futures.

Jane, Chloe and Lillian Mae Gibbs, 1905. Lillian was Chloe's older sister, and went by Mae. She married Matthew Sheedy.

Ok, enough for now, but more to follow shortly (I hope.)

Finally, I'm scanning

So, here's a few goodies to peruse.

Oscar, 1941 at the 1st Fort Dix Horse Show on "Yacqi Jim."

I love this photo---I have to wonder if it might be a wedding photo. Perhaps Jim knows.

This is John Gibbs, Madge's dad. Maybe about 1910. He died of influenza, according to the notes Madge left, because he was a sheriff and was checking on folks in the flu epidemic. Don't know if that's the case, but he did die young.

This is Virinda Ann Hammond Hinkle Elstwick, Oscar's Mom, in 1942. She remarried after Oscar's father passed away.

Cleopatra "Chloe" Gilpin Gibbs. This photo was on a postcard, and I'm guessing that it was taken shortly before her marriage, perhaps shortly thereafter. Don't you love that hat and the big gold locket. She must have been fond of it, for it shows up in several photos of her through the years.

So---there's a very (VERY) small start. Enjoy!

Finally an Update

Here you go's not ancient history, but a few photos of the current Hinkle clan.
